The Law of Sacrifice

All life is governed by Spiritual Laws and as we aim to live by these Laws we evolve spiritually thereby assisting others with their spiritual growth. The word sacrifice means “to make sacred or holy” and is mentioned in all major religions.

Sacrifice involves giving up something we value for the benefit of others and if done with love and compassion should bring joy and not pain.

The first sacrifice was that of the Logos putting part of his being down to pour forth life so that many forms came into manifestation. All life manifested contained the divine spark of the Logos and this is the Oneness or Unity of all life that exists. From the perfection of bliss and self-existence the Logos limited himself by this pouring forth of his life into matter.

The Divine Plan is for the evolution of all life so that all life will return to that Oneness. This is the Law of Sacrifice and the Law of Evolution.

Sacrifice is often associated with pain but this is usually connected with giving up something grudgingly to benefit someone else. Sacrifice is meant to bring joy and not pain through selfless giving. If it is given from the Higher Self it will bring joy as you offer your true self for the service of others. Any pain felt in giving indicates that the giving originates in the Lower Self and is selfish, not selfless.

The Law of Sacrifice was for the manifestation of all life, minerals, plants, animals and humans. All life is given by the Logos and all forms of life are One. As humans we need to understand the need to assist these other forms of life to evolve and show care and compassion.

Spirituality is seeing the Divine in all forms of life. Divine sacrifice created all and as we endeavour to put the Spiritual Laws into practice through selfless sacrifice we will experience bliss and know that it is more blessed to give than to receive.

As humans having a material existence we often forget our true identity is spiritual and become absorbed with the glamour of all the physical life offers. Thus, we separate ourselves from God and from each other.

Each day we need to offer ourselves as a sacrifice to God and ask for guidance to be of service to others in need of love and compassion. We all need help from those more evolved and it is right that we assist those less evolved than ourselves.

Being of service involves giving of ourselves in terms of time, money, energy, etc., but this needs to be a joyful and satisfying experience with no pain or grudges about having to give up something we value.

We can pray for guidance, meditate on how we can benefit others who are struggling to cope and express gratitude for the opportunity to serve others. Being non-judgmental is important as also is the letting go of attachments and material gain. Assisting others to evolve is acknowledging them as spiritual brothers and sisters and remembering the unity of all life. What we do for others we do for all, including ourselves.

When we make sacrifice a joy we are letting go of our lower selves and evolving to higher levels. Our intentions and motivation must be pure with no desire for personal gain. See this as an exchange of energy. You are giving up a lower energy and being rewarded with a higher energy. In helping others raise their energy you, too, are raising yours. As you give so shall you receive.

It is vital to trust that all our needs will be met in the right way. In order to evolve spiritually monitoring our thoughts and being willing to alter them when necessary will change our experiences. Negative thoughts affect others as well as ourselves. All is energy, including our thoughts, and they are just as powerful as spoken words. As we keep our thoughts at a higher level living spiritually will become much easier. Sacrifice is something we are willing to make. For more information on the power of thought you may wish to refer to our article “Power of Thought”.

Sacrifice will have a beneficial effect on our Karma. Briefly, the Law of Karma is the Law of Cause and Effect and is closely aligned to Reincarnation. We evolve by reincarnating in new physical, emotional and mental bodies to deal with Karma from past lives to assist our Soul which is our connection to the Creator, to evolve. Throughout each lifetime we interact with others and create good and bad Karma. All thoughts, words and deeds form our Karmic Account.

Karma means “action” and we have to make up for negative thoughts, words and deeds in our past lives and current life. Therefore, offering ourselves in selfless service by sacrificing what we value for the good of the less fortunate will enable us to create good Karma. However, it will not cancel bad Karma but our acts of sacrifice will stand us in good stead in future lifetimes, but we will still need to deal with bad Karma by accepting it as something we have attracted it and deal with it in a spiritual way. More information and guidance on Karma can be found in our articles “Karma” and “Dealing with Karma”.

Many spiritual teachers have incarnated to guide us and the basic teachings on Unconditional Love and Compassion are common to many religions. As previously stated, the Universe is governed by Laws and these Laws are given to guide our spiritual evolution. By living these Laws sacrificing becomes much easier and joyful as we reach out to give ourselves to others. Our web page on the Spiritual Laws gives an introduction to putting the Laws into practice.

There is no better way to serve God than by giving of ourselves to those in need.
